Buying it is an option, but there's smarter ways to get some than buying it from NPC vendors.

The game gives you ammo as you play. If you take care to avoid spraying and praying too much you'll have enough to keep playing.

One option is to make your own. You can use gunpowder, steel, and lead, which are readily available to make most normal ammo. Rarer materials can be used to make more powerful ammo if you want.

Using a combination of weapons while playing is a good strategy to produce a surplus of ammo.

04:51 - 5. Daily Ops & Expeditions
Every enemy in these events will provide ammo for your gun. If you're high enough level you can farm them for extra ammo.
