How do you get a high heel recovery when you run?
When we see elite runners run, you may see those heels come up close to the hip region.
We also tend to try to COPY how elite athletes run.
However, one common mistake runners make is trying to force that pattern by actively pulling the heel up to the hip area while running.
This pattern actually occurs more as a consequence of the femur swinging forward.
The faster the femur swings forward, typically the higher the heel position will naturally be.
A good example of this is looking at Sifan Hassan (world record holder) during different paces.
The video above will show clips of her running an 1 hour race compared to a mile race.
She is obviously running faster during the mile, which is typically associated with the femur swinging quicker…which ultimately results with the heel position being higher.
So the lesson to this one is to FOCUS less on getting the heel up. This will typically happen naturally as you run faster.
