The most effective way to fix a “System UI not responding” error on Samsung phones involves restarting the phone, clearing the System UI cache, removing problematic apps or widgets, updating software and apps, and performing a factory reset as a last resort
Step 1 — Restart Your Device
Start with a simple restart. This closes temporary glitches and refreshes system processes. Press and hold the power button, select Restart, and verify if the error persists
Step 2 — Boot into Safe Mode
Safe Mode disables third-party apps that may conflict with the System UI. To boot into Safe Mode, power off the phone, press and hold the Power button until the Samsung logo appears, then hold Volume Down until the device starts. Observe if the error stops—if it does, uninstall recently installed or suspicious apps to find the culprit
Step 3 — Clear System UI Cache and Data
Over time, corrupted cache files can trigger UI errors. To clear cache:
Go to Settings Apps
Tap the three-dot menu and select Show system apps
Find System UI and select Storage
Tap Clear Cache, then Clear Data (this resets UI preferences but not personal files)
Restart the phone
Step 4 — Remove Problematic Apps and Widgets
Uninstall any recently installed apps, especially third-party ones affecting the home screen or Google-integrated apps. Faulty widgets can also trigger UI crashes—long press and Remove them from the home screen
Step 5 — Update Operating System and Apps
Check Settings Software Update Download and Install to ensure the phone has the latest Android version. Update all apps from the Google Play Store, as outdated apps can conflict with System UI
Step 6 — Free Up Storage Space
System UI errors may occur when storage is low. Make sure at least 2GB is free by deleting unused apps, large files, or transferring photos/videos to cloud storage
