Learning to Doggy Paddle is important for any beginner swimmer. But, what you may not know is that the Doggy Paddle drill can help swimmers of any level. This Doggy Paddle swimming drill goes hand-in-hand with the Sculling drill (see ep.16 in this series) to help you improve your catch and pull-through.

Watch them both demonstrated here by Swim Smooth founder/Head Coach Paul Newsome using his Endless Pools Fastlane®.

The Doggy Paddle is like a normal freestyle swim stroke, except with an underwater arm recovery. Coach Newsome recommends that you use a pool buoy for this drill.

Note: beginning around the 1:53 mark, the water distorts the proportional size of the Endless Pools Fastlane® swim-current generator. The Fastlane unit measures just 34"" tall, 18"" deep, and 29"" wide.
