In this episode of the loft conversion project, we are removing the old roof structure to make way for the new gable end. We start by stripping the tiles and inspecting the old timbers, only to find some hidden rot caused by an old chimney back gutter.
I also explain "Roof Fatigue" and show you exactly what happens to a roof structure as it ages—including a ridge board that has dropped a staggering 60mm!. Watch as we cut the rafters in situ using a jigsaw and prepare the site for the steel beams.
