How to crochet the Delilah Mug Rug, which is a pretty floral mug rug that is worked in a join as you go manner. At only 12 yards of yarn per flower and 4 yards per leaf, this is a great projects for scraps of yarn, and the perfect piece to add to your living room, kitchen or dining room to house your favorite coffee and snack. This mug rug also works great as a mini washcloth, and as a doily for plants, candles and so much more!
This floral motif has been one of absolute favorite little things! I have used to create so many fun free crochet patterns (video tutorials in the works for them). You can see some of these projects in the Intro of the video:

You'll need some Worsted Weight Yarn - that's 12 Yards per Flower (6 for center and 6 for petals), and almost 3 Yards per Half Leaf. In my original mug rug, I just did one Round for the Border using 31 yards in total. With the updated purple and yellow version, I added an additional round of single crochet in the back loop only for a total of 35 Yards.
I used WeCrochet Dishie for my mug rug. My original was worked in Bumblebee for the flower centers, in White and Azure for the petals, and in Honeydew for the Leaves. The new one I made for this video uses Bumblebee and Honeydew in the same places, and Mulberry for the petals.
You'll also need a H8/5mm Crochet Hook, and a Tapestry Needle to weave in ends.
Material Notes:
I love using WeCrochet Dishie because it’s colorfast, which means the colors are set, plus cotton is more durable and absorbent, but you can use any worsted weight yarn out of your stash! An alternative to Dishie would be Queensland Coastal Cotton, which is also colorfast. I have a few mug rugs I’ve made myself using Lion Brand Pound of Love Yarn, which is a 100% acrylic yarn. A hot cup of coffee is not hot enough to melt synthetic fibers, and while it doesn’t quite absorb the same way with cold beverages, it still holds the water and does not seep through to the surface.

Gauge is not essential for this project so you can easily substitute another weight yarn that might be in your stash, but it will change the overall size of the mug rug.

Time Spent:
Just over 15 minutes per flower, and about 4 minutes per half leaf for a total of just under 1 hour. A little more if you add the extra round of single crochet to the border.
Flower Measurement: Taken from the position of one petal at the top center and measured from tip of top petal to tip of bottom petal: 3 5/8″ wide by 4 1/8″
Mug Rug Measurement: 4 3/4” tall by 7 1/4” wide
Gauge (Not Essential):
Diameter taken after Round 2: 2 1/2″
