Start with a beautiful, floral granny square that’s perfect for scraps and works up quickly. Pull your favorite colors from your stash to create a field of crochet flowers in whatever project you choose to do. I'll show you how to crochet a flower and then turn it into a granny square with this tutorial. Using worsted weight yarn, it comes out to be a 6" square, but you can easily switch up the weight of yarn with whatever you have in your stash to make a bigger or smaller square, or continue adding rounds to make it larger as well.
Some ideas for this square:
- Make 1 in cotton yarn for a washcloth
- Make 1 in any fiber for a wall hanging
- Make several and sew together to create a tote bag, rug, blanket and so much more
- Experiment with different weight yarns to get different sizes for endless possibilities!

You'll need 47 Yards Total of Worsted Weight 4 Yarn - I used Lion Brand Pound of Love in Honey Bee (Flower Center, 12 yards), White (Petals, 12 yards), Olive (Leaves, 4 yards) and Denim (35 yards)

You'll also need a H8/5mm Crochet Hook, and a Tapestry Needle to weave in ends.

Depending on the project you’ll be working with this square, the yarn options can vary, but they’re practically endless. Feel to use your favorite worsted weight yarn, but I’ll provide some ideas for a couple projects:
For things like an afghan, scarf and shawl, acrylic yarn, like the Pound of Love I used, is a good choice. For a cozier option, go with a wool blend, like Lion Brand Wool Ease or Cascade Pacific. For a warm weather option, a cotton blend, like Berroco Modern Cotton or Lion Brand Made with Love are great choices.
For things like a tote bag, washcloth or table runner, a 100% cotton yarn, like Circulo Natural Cotton Maxcolor 4/6 or Queensland Coastal Cotton is what I would recommend. These are nice, durable options that wear and machine wash well and are also colorfast (not all cotton yarns are).

If you want to check gauge, you'll also want to have a soft tape measure on hand, however, gauge is not essential unless the finished size of the square is essential to you.

Time Spent:
Just over 15 minutes per flower, and about an hour for the entire square.
Flower Measurement: Taken from the position of one petal at the top center and measured from tip of top petal to tip of bottom petal: 3 1/2″ wide by 3 7/8″
Finished Square: 6" Square
Gauge (Not Essential):
After Round 2 aka the Center of the Flower, measure the diameter = 2 1/4”
