How to crochet the Lightweight Haylee Bauble Ornaments, an easy half double crochet ornament! There are 3 sizes included.
Personalized ornaments are one of my favorite things to gift each holiday season. You can change up the colors to better match the recipients theme, or embellish with buttons or appliques.
You'll need a small amount of Lightweight #3 Yarn - I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Sportweight Yarn in the Orange colorway, a G6/4mm Crochet Hook, a Tapestry Needle to weave in ends, a Soft Tape Measure for Gauge, and either Styrofoam Balls – 2.4″ for Small, 2.8″ for Medium, and 3.8″ for Large (also got mine from Hobby Lobby) - bauble ornaments of the respective diameter sizes, or stuffing
Material Notes:
We're changing up our holiday decor this year so I went with orange for my ornaments, but I've made lots of these ornaments over the years, and have had similar results with Baby Bee Sweet Delight and Lion Brand Vanna's Glamour (which I miss so much for holiday projects! It's been discontinued).
In my original design, and with many of the ornaments I make, I designed to cover styrofoam balls, but the small size also works great to cover ornaments from Dollar Tree that come in a tube of 6 or 7, which is what I'm using in the video because I wanted to have the hanger at the top. Alternatively, you could also stuff the ornaments.
Keep in mind that the measurements given are ball diameters, not the circumference. If you have a ball at home, and you want to see if it'll fit the measurements I've provided (or you want to work to a custom size), you'll want to measure all the way around the ball, which is the circumference, then divide by pi, which is 3.14.
Stitch Markers help you keep track of the beginning and end of your rounds, especially when working in continuous rounds without joining. I like these locking stitch markers (affiliate link): shrsl.com/44vuv
Time Spent:
The medium sized one took me just under 45 minutes to complete.
Gauge - Measured in Pattern:
- 36 HDC in the Round = 2 1/4″ in diameter
- 60 HDC in the Round = 4″ in diameter
