In this tutorial, you will learn How to Equalize White Balance and Exposure in Lightroom.
We’re going to look at the basics toolbar to do most of what we need for this tutorial.
Let’s open an image in the develop module. Click on Basics if it isn’t already open.
When it comes to white balance we have to tools for our disposal: We can click on As Shot next to WB and choose an option that corresponds to the setting of when the photo was taken. Alternatively, we can leave it as is, and use the Temp and Tint sliders to add or remove certain colors. In this case, temperature means how warm the colors are. The more orange there is the warmer it’s considered, the warm blue there is, the colder it is considered. Same concept applies with Tint except this slider will add or remove green or magenta casts.
For exposure, it’s slider above. Use this to add or remove exposure. There’s always the option to click auto, but we’ll be using the manual control of the exposure slider.
Simply drag around the exposure slider until you are satisfied. While you can use the histogram to see whether you are peaking any colors or not, at the end of the day, photography is a creative and subjective matter.
Remember, correct or incorrect exposure doesn’t really exist when it comes to creative photography. You can choose the exposure that will best fit your purpose the same way you can choose what colors you want in your photo.
