In this tutorial, you will learn How to Place Text Behind an Object in Photoshop.
For this tutorial, we’ll go about the general idea of isolating an object in a photo and putting text behind it.
To start off, we’ll need a select of the object. We’ll be using the Quick Selection Tool. Depending on your image, using the Object selection tool might also work just fine!
Select the tool and change the brush size to your needs. Keep the hardness at 100%. Now click and drag across the object that you want isolated. Once you let go, you’ll be able to click and drag again adding to your selection. To remove part of a selection that was unintentional, press option and click and drag. You’ll see the cursor change from plus to a minus sign. If you’ve gone a little over the edge, you’ll still be able to remove things further with an eraser tool. If you want to start over, press CMD+D. When done, press CMD+J. This’ll create a duplicate of the layer with the selection only. Now type in your text and move the text layer below the isolated layer. There you go!
Depending on the image, using the smart tools might just be enough to isolate your object without any further tweaking with the eraser tool. You may also want to paint some shadow over your text to make it blend in a little better with your image.
