Struggling to copy a body from one Fusion design into another? You're not alone! In this video, Karena, an expert QA Engineer on the Fusion team, shares the most effective ways to move bodies and retain feature history - clarifying why this common workflow isn’t always obvious for new and experienced users.

We'll break down the differences between bodies and components, since this is where many users get tripped up. A body is a fixed part inside a component and doesn’t carry feature history. On the other hand, a component retains rich feature information and timeline context, allowing for more flexible edits and easier reuse across projects.

First, you'll learn how to copy a body using base features: simply copy your body, paste it into a new file as a base feature, and finish the operation. This approach removes timeline constraints but doesn’t retain design intelligence from the source file. For scenarios requiring more intelligence and live referencing, try the Insert then Derive approach: save your target design, derive the body, and you’ll create a dynamic link between files that updates with changes.

For users who want to keep full feature and timeline history, copying components is key. Build your geometry as a component, copy it, and "Paste New" into your other design. This method preserves your feature tree, but may raise reference errors if dependencies don’t exist in the new context—be sure to resolve any warnings.

Finally, you can use Insert then Insert into Current Design, then break the link to gain timeline access and edit freely in your assembly.

Unlock Fusion’s full design flexibility by mastering these essential copy-paste workflows!
