Learn how to create precise criss-cross (cross-hatch) grooves for machining using Autodesk Fusion. In this session, Phil Eichmiller, a senior QA engineer on the Autodesk Fusion team and experienced CAD instructor, walks through a practical workflow to model a cross-hatch pattern that’s suitable for manufacturing.

What You’ll Learn:
- When to consult a machinist or CAM programmer vs. modeling the pattern directly
- How to sketch a simple groove profile on top of your part
- Using polygons and sketch lines to define your criss-cross layout
- How to sweep a groove along a path to cut into your part
- Using pattern features in Fusion 3to repeat the groove
- How to mirror patterns to create a criss-cross effect
- Techniques to keep your design parametric and editable, including:
- Adjusting groove depth and width
- Tweaking the angle of the original sketch
- Quickly updating the pattern to refine the look

If you practice this workflow a few times, you’ll be able to confidently create and control complex criss-cross patterns for both visualization and real-world machining.
