About this video: If you want to use Steam without your friends seeing that you are online, this video shows you how to appear offline. We also explain the difference between appearing invisible and going completely offline so you can choose the right option.
To get started, open the Steam app and click “Friends & Chat” in the bottom-right corner. This will open your Steam friends list. From there, click the arrow next to your name to see the available status options.
Selecting “Invisible” will make you appear offline to your friends while keeping you signed into Steam Friends & Chat. You can still send messages, receive messages, and use the other social features normally without anyone seeing that you are online.
If you select “Offline” instead, Steam will sign you out of Friends & Chat completely. Your friends will not see you online, but you also will not be able to message or communicate with them until you reconnect.
