About this video: In this video, we're going to show you how to get Java on your Mac for Minecraft mods and servers. This is going to show you everything, including making sure that you get the correct version for modern Minecraft, so let's go ahead and get started.

First things first, you'll want to go to the Java download page. There's a link above that will take you to our in-depth text guide on getting Java for Mac. On this page, go ahead and click the download button to go to the official download page. Here, select the Java version you want, most likely Java 25 or 26, and then select macOS. From there, you'll want to select ARM64 DMG and download that file.

Now double-click on the file you downloaded, and it will prompt you to install Java. Go ahead and do that by dragging and dropping it into your Applications folder, just like any other program on Mac. It will then install, and you're done! Java is now installed. You can delete the DMG file you downloaded, and most importantly, you'll be able to run your Minecraft .jar mods and files and shaders using Java.

However, sometimes you'll try to start these, and you'll get a warning, and that's that it's not safe to run these files on your Mac. However, you can easily run them anyway. To do that, open up Settings, and then go to Privacy & Security on the left-hand side. From there, scroll down to the very, very bottom of this security tab, and you will see the file you tried to open with an Open Anyway button next to it. Click that button, and then confirm again that you're sure you want to open this file anyway, and then it will open up the .jar file you're trying to run.

With that, you now know how to download and install Java on Mac for Minecraft mods and servers. If you've got any questions, let us know in the comments, but thanks for watching, and we'll see you in the next one!
