This video will show you how to add a lock screen to an Android phone or tablet. It will give the option to add a PIN, password, or pattern lock to secure your Android device.

To add the lock screen to an Android device, first go into the programs list, and go to settings.

In the settings list there will be a security option, it should be about midway down the list.

In the security settings, select the screen lock option, and then select the type of protection you want. The pin option lets you choose a 4 number PIN to unlock the phone, the password option is an alphanumeric password, and the pattern unlock (shown in the video) allows you to select a patter to unlock the phone. The pattern is usually best, because it allows you to quickly unlock the phone and with one hand, but the password function is the most secure.

If you select the pattern option, just draw the pattern once, and then hit continue and it will ask you to repeat the pattern. The same process is used for the password and PIN functions.

Once you have set the pattern/password/PIN, it will be automatically active. If you want to turn the password off at any point, you can go back into the same lock screen setting area and deselect the lock screen.
