There is a little known mix technique that pros use to have huge reverbs without muddying the mix and masking things.

Step 1: What layer is most important musically, and what stands out most for the listener.
Step 2: Apply a huge reverb.
Step 3: Thin it out. Frequency limit it.

Why it works:

You fool the ears because they don’t hear what the reverb is on.

What to avoid:

Putting this type of reverb on a bunch of things or thick ranges of frequencies / multiple layers.
