Do you ever feel like, at times, you lose touch with your passion, ambition and drive to go after your art? Maybe you’re lacking inspiration to show up and do the work that needs to be done? If that ever happens then I want to share something I’ve found extremely useful to be able to blast through that roadblock.

In the book, he discusses 2 bricklayers both working on a large project. When asked what he does, the first bricklayer replies, “I lay bricks; I’m a bricklayer.” The second bricklayer says, “I’m building a cathedral.” There’s a significant mindset difference between the two people.
Which one do you think is likely to be more driven and passionate about their craft, and able to persevere through all the hard work and countless hours required to complete the project? Having a sense of connection with the bigger picture - your why - is a powerful source of creative fuel.
If you’re feeling stuck, uninspired, or finding difficulty showing up and doing the work, then this technique can be very helpful. If you zoom way out from the granular, bite-sized stuff and say what is the reason why I started doing this? Where am I going with this? What’s my destination? Where in my wildest dreams and visions will I be when I become successful in this pursuit?
If you connect with that, and hold it in your mind when you’re working, that can provide the sense of motivation that will get you to continue doing the day in, day out work that’s necessary to realize your grander vision.
