For more than a decade, the softball community has come together through @Fastpitch Cares to make a difference for kids at @OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. 💛
What started with one softball team supporting their teammate has grown into an annual tournament that has raised more than $390,000 for Doernbecher over the past 14 years — helping fund projects that directly support patients and families, including a 3D prosthetics lab, a floor makeover at the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, specialized cardiology tools and more.
The story began in 2012, when Bailey Marshall and teammate Vanessa were hospitalized at OHSU with life-threatening illnesses. Away from the softball field and her everyday routine, Bailey’s teammates found a way to remind her she was still part of the team: They wore stickers with her name on their helmets and cheered her on from afar.
That gesture inspired Sue Oran to find a way for the softball community to continue showing up for kids like Bailey. Fastpitch Cares was born — and has continued to grow ever since.
Today, Fastpitch Cares is about so much more than one tournament. It’s a community coming together to pay it forward and help make the hospital experience a little easier for kids and families.
The 2026 Fastpitch Cares tournament takes place Sept. 19–20 in Hillsboro. Through volunteers, donations and a silent auction, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Learn more at
