This is the story of how the Savvy Games Group, a gaming focused investment arm of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Saudi Arabia, accidentally forced the Swedish mega corporation, Embracer Group, to shut down the 30 year old American gaming studio, Volition.
Sound complicated? It should! But it also shouldn't! The gaming industry has been headed in this unfathomably complex corporate layered maze of confusion for decades, and in this production, rather than talk about the Saints Row Reboot, wokeness, or even Volition directly, we'll be discussing this issue of increasing economic globalisation in the gaming industry, and how it harms their futures.
