We’re coming up on the one-year mark since the public camping ordinance went into effect, banning camping and sleeping on public property. Since the ordinance took effect, your #JSO District 1 officers have been out every day enforcing that ban while also offering resources to those in need. This video shows what a day in the life looks like for those officers.
One of the many resources we provide is transportation back to a person’s support system through Homeward Bound. This program helps a homeless person return to family in another city. It’s a one-way ticket home, often the same day, and it doesn’t cost the person or the taxpayer anything. It’s fully paid for using funds from criminal seizures.
Just last month, 99 people utilized Homeward Bound, getting out of Jacksonville and to their loved one.
The work we’re doing goes beyond enforcing rules. It’s about showing up, offering support, and helping people take meaningful steps to better themselves.
