How many tangent lines are there to two intersecting ellipses? Intuitively there should be four, but why? Here a solution that uses no calculus whatsoever, just pure algebra, suitable for high school and algebra 2 students. It's a very nice application of the quadratic equation, followed by systems of equations. This video was inspired by a TikTok post.
