William P. Gosch describes his war experience in the Pacific Theater, from training at Guadalcanal to seeing harrowing frontline action at Guam and Okinawa. Mr Gosch’s service with the Marines saw him witness (and be the target of) kamikaze attacks as the Japanese sought to halt the US advance through the Pacific. He was wounded by shrapnel, lost friends and colleagues at close quarters, and experienced near-death on numerous occasions in his role assaulting the beaches at Guam and Okinawa.
