On 17 August 2015, there was a bomb blast at the famous Erawan Shrine in central Bangkok. The shrine, which is revered by Thai people, was also a popular tourist destination. 20 people were killed in the explosion and over 120 people were wounded. According to experts, the attack was believed to be in retaliation for the forced repatriation of Chinese ethnic minority group 'Uighurs' from Thailand to China.
