Beneath a Catholic cathedral in Cusco lies a sealed doorway that priests have guarded for 500 years. This is the Chinkana Grande, a mile-long trapezoidal tunnel of forbidden archaeology that runs from the Coricancha to the megalithic walls of Sacsayhuaman, and everyone who has tried to explore it has either died or lost their mind.
