Zoey and Nick spent months dreaming about their first child Billie and the joy she'd bring to their lives. Everything about Zoey's pregnancy was pretty typical, until one morning in March and 8 weeks before her delivery date, a very typically active Billie was not moving. They went to the OHSU to do some fetal monitoring but were surprised to know they needed to deliver her right away. Doctors found Zoey had experienced a concealed placental abruption, that overlapped with maternal fetal hemorrhaging. Although doctors did everything in their power to save her, by the time Billie was delivered she was not able to survive.
However, their love for Billie is everlasting, and her brief life has forever shaped theirs. Grief is powerful, and Zoey and Nick are committed to living their lives in a way that would make Billie proud — carrying her with them in their hearts, always. Part of their work has been to raise money for the OHSU Doernbecher NICU, in hopes of comforting other parents during moments like theirs. Billie's legacy lives on through the lives of Zoey and Nick.
