The fury of Lake Erie.
The recent storm that affected much of North America really put on a show along the shore of Lake Erie in Ontario. The intense winds and frigid temperatures cased the spray from the crashing waves to flash freeze on these houses along the lake, entombing them in ice.
These amazing sculptures of ice really show how fragile our dwellings can be if we build them too close to the water. It was surreal to capture these today and it took some effort to get to a position where I could photograph them. The ice is thick, but it only covers the lake-facing side of the houses. The brownish colour comes from the dirt and sediment that were also whipped up by the storm.
This is one of the most impressive displays of ice that I’ve ever seen. I feel bad for the homeowners, it will take time and effort to deal with this.
