Rare thundersnow in Toronto. March 3rd 2023
Conditions were so severe during a very intense late-winter snowstorm that brought near-blizzard conditions to Canada's largest city, that thunder and lightning were frequently present. I measured 28 cm of snow at my house, but nearby, there was 32 cm reported. All of it came down in a storm that came in quickly, roared through the region, then exited as quickly as it arrived.

Some snowstorms can be intense enough that the convection present can be similar to that of summer thunderstorms. This is sometimes seen in intense bands of lake-effect snow, but can also occur in regular snowstorms too. All across Ontario, people experienced this lightning. Even the C.N. Tower in downtown Toronto was struck.
