After populations in native habitats declined, Komodo dragons were listed as endangered. The San Diego Zoo has cared for them since 1968 and since the 1990s, have funded the travel of conservation and population sustainability experts to Indonesia to support research and protection efforts.
Findings from advanced CT scans and monitoring of bone health at the Zoo are shared with organizations worldwide. Every new insight helps improve care for these dazzling dragons and supports a healthy, genetically diverse population for generations to come.
