- About the video -
I'm pleased to present my first animash in pretty much two years. Well, watching this I think you can tell why I don't do them so often. I just see so many people using so many effects and making amazing 3D stuff and such that I wonder if my stuff is even going to be enjoyable. Truth is I don't think I would have fun making those special effects and using 30+ layers like most people do nowadays even if I enjoy watching them, and if I don't have fun on it, making them would be totally pointless.
So I guess you can call this “my style” or something? I don’t know, it’s pretty ordinary and everyone who has Vegas can do the same thing XD But it was fun, and I think that’s what it matters in the end. I started this… A few weeks ago? I had a huge editor’s block when I got to the mark of 2 minutes and I didn’t work on it again until today, so yeah, this took a few days overall.
What I mostly wanted was to play around and use some scenes you don’t usually see on animash. That being Hercules, Atlantis, Beauty and the beast, The road to El Dorado and even some clips from Tangled and Frozen. I don’t know if I succeeded on that, but I’m happy with the matching clips and lyrics. One of my hugest pet peeves is when people just throw random scenes together, thus I avoided that as much as I could.
I got a little lazy towards the ending, but I just wanted to get this done to be honest. I haven't finished anything I wanted to finish in quite some time, so it's really a relief to have this uploaded at last.
- About the song –
There’s actually a whole story about why I chose this song and about the song itself. Back in 2013, it was the song I would listen to the most and it reminds me of very, very good times I had back then. I’ve been planning on editing to it since but I never got around to actually make it until now (Mostly because of what I said above about my style but it made me happy to edit with it; both because of the memories and because of the fact that who first showed me this song was someone very special to me. It was someone who said they found strength on this song since they were doing drugs and they told me one day they were going to escape the hotel. They tried, but... In the end, they couldn't leave.
And this song has a powerful meaning. In general, it’s about making bad choices because they look good at first, and when you realize what you’ve done it’s too late to go back. The most accepted theory is that the hotel represents the USA; and the song is about foreign people who go there looking for a good and majestic life but end up trapped when they notice not everything is as glamorous as it seemed as first.
However, I like to believe this song is actually about being addicted to drugs, which I thought was just a theory of mine but then I found it is actually a huge theory about the song. “Warm smell of colitas”, “Some dance to remember, some dance to forget” and some other lines make me believe this makes more sense. And because I have been witness to how hard it is when someone is an addict and how sad it is, this song really means a lot to me. So even when they realize doing drugs was a bad choice, something keeps them there. “You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.”
I'm just rumbling here really XD But I made this for that reason so I just wanted to let you know, I guess. There are actually a lot of theories about this song; some really random and weird and some powerful like this one. If you're interested, I'd say to take a look on that.
Also, yes, I used a cover and pitched it to avoid copyright. Because the original one was blocked on mobile I used to listen to this one most of the time. I wouldn't say I like it better, but it really grew on me.
Also, I could be wrong but I think I'm the first person to ever make an animash/amv to this song? Nothing special, it just feels cool to me XD

I would like to dedicated this to Torsy, Avery, Jen, Cody, Moki, Root, Hayley, Cakey, Content, Emmy, Maka and Fifoca. You guys have such a huge impact on my life; you've become my best friends and I don't know what I would do without you. Thanks for the support I had about finished this from some of you even when I thought about giving up. I hope you guys really enjoy this, even if nothing I ever edit is going to be enough to show how much you all mean to me ♥
