On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Custom Eldorado. Designed by Harry Bradley, this is based on the the 1967 Cadillac Eldorado and debuted in the 1968 line-up as part of the Original Sweet 16 castings. Thanks to Paul from Diecast Graveyard for gifting me this casting along with all the extras needed to do a full restoration.
The original Hot Wheels were made by Elliot Handler who wanted to create a line of toy cars to compete with Matchbox, but his designs would be more like hot rods, often with big rear tires, superchargers, flame paint-jobs, outlandish proportions, hood blowers, etc., as compared to Matchbox cars which were generally small-scale models of production cars.
The first line of Hot Wheels cars, known as The Original Sweet 16, was introduced by his company Mattel on May 18, 1968.
In real life, the eighth generation Cadillac Eldorado was radically redesigned for 1967 as a front-wheel drive hardtop coupe, becoming Cadillac's entry in the era's burgeoning personal luxury car market. It was the first and only Cadillac model with the headlamps concealed behind moveable covers. It had an all new 472 V8 engine rated at 375 hp. Sales were excellent despite high list prices, giving Cadillac its best year ever.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
