On the bench today is a 1:64 scale Hot Wheels Lotus Cortina, which will be the base model for a Summer Road Trip buddy build with Brian from Brian’s Diecast Thailand. We’ve decided on a rally car theme. The initial livery of the Hot Wheels casting is based on Jim Clark's 1964 British Saloon Car Championship-winning car. Mine is getting made over into the Ford Lotus Cortina driven in the 1968 RAC Rally by the team of Brits, Chris Sclater and Martin Holmes.
The Ford Consul Cortina developed by Lotus, colloquially known as the Lotus Cortina, is a high-performance sports sedan produced by Ford from 1963 to 1970 over two generations. Designed by Roy Brown Jr. in collaboration with Ford UK and Lotus Cars, the Cortina was based on the Cortina Mark 1, albeit fitted with a 1.6L Ford twin-cam inline-4 and tuned by Lotus engineers. The car itself was developed for Group 2 homologation. It would go on to be used successfully in racing, driven by drivers such as Jim Clark and John Whitmore. The first generation was discontinued in 1966 after 3,306 of them were produced.

FYI: All of the Maple Leaf Customs finished projects that are kid-friendly are put in custom blister packs and go to my local Goodwill store where they are given to children for free. If there are parts that can be swallowed, those cars are given as gifts to adult collectors that are fellow enthusiasts.
