In this video, Tumi shares her knowledge from her time in the cosmetics industry and explains what a Hot Process Emulsion is and how the Silverson homogenizer enables the formation of high-quality creams and lotions. Learn about the different phases, the ingredients in each phases and mixing them at temperature.

The L5M-A can be supplied with a temperature probe which can be invaluable in this application. As Tumi explains, temperature plays a critical role, not only in combining the oil and water phases, but also in determining when to add temperature-sensitive components. Ingredients such as fragrances, colorants, preservative systems, and extracts must be incorporated below a specific threshold to maintain their efficacy and stability. $How to Mix Pectin Pectin is used as a thickening agent in foods such as jams and jellies, marmalades and other preserves. Dispersing and hydrating pectin can be difficult as the powder has a strong tendency to form lumps when added to water. Premixing the powder can help but this adds to process time and costs. In this video Silverson demonstrates how using a high shear mixer is a simple and effective way of preparing an agglomerate-free pectin solution in a matter of minutes. The Silverson Ultramix is ideal for dispersing pectin - the unique single-piece mixing head rapidly incorporates and hydrates the powder in a fraction of the time taken by conventional agitators. There is no need to premix the powders and the pectin does not have to be sifted onto the surface to prevent agglomerates. $How to Manufacture Blended Fruit Smoothies and Beverages A smoothie is made by blending raw fruits or vegetables with water, fruit juice or milk. It may also contain other ingredients such as grains, herbs or proteins. When it comes to making smoothies, most of us are familiar with traditional kitchen blenders, but there is no production scale equivalent. If you’re looking to produce smoothies on a larger scale you may think you need several different pieces of processing equipment for chopping and pureeing the ingredients, but with a Silverson mixer you can manufacture smoothies in a single step, whatever the liquid base of your product.
