Mr. Shawn Dyer's video on the Kephart/Preston Cook Kit: youtube.com/watch?v=aO507fEO4bs

Here's a little bit more about the kit from Sarge Vining: "Both the Preston Kit design and the Upton/Stopple Kit design were submitted to the Army as part of a competition to replace the 1904/06 mess system (mess kit and canteen). Ultimately, the Army went with its own 1910 design that we all know and love for the canteen and cup, and slightly modified the 1906 design. The reason the Preston design was rejected for military use is what makes it a superior system for camping use: its designed primarily for individual cooking in the field, while the Army's need was actually for a system primarily to be used by soldiers being served food from a Field Kitchen with limited utility as a field cooking system. Of the three, IMO the Preston is the best for individual camp cooking."
