On May 13, 2026, at approximately 8 PM in the 9600 block of Tidwell in Houston, a 30-year-old homeless man was fatally shot by a cooperative homeowner. The victim had chronically trespassed in a new housing development still under construction, repeatedly entering backyards and unfinished homes, prompting multiple complaints from residents. On the day of the incident, the homeowner confronted the man in his backyard and again outside a vacant house, attempting to make him leave. The homeless man briefly departed but returned, leading to another confrontation in the wooded area near Tidwell. The situation turned physical when the man allegedly attacked the homeowner, who then drew a pistol and shot him. The victim fled but was later found deceased in a nearby ditch. The homeowner, who lives across the ditch near a playground, initially searched for the man after the shooting and fully cooperated with police when they arrived on a suspicious person call.
