Hiroshima Peace Memorial is a somber and moving UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known in Japanese as Genbaku Dome, or A-Bomb Dome, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial is the remains of Industrial Promotion Hall, an exhibition hall designed by Czech architect Jan Letzel and opened in 1915. Located almost exactly underneath the atomic bomb explosion of August 1945, it was one of the only buildings to survive the enormous blast. Since then, it has stood as a memorial to the 140,000+ victims of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima.
