The Dacian Fortresses of the Orestie Mountains is an interesting UNESCO World Heritage Site. It covers a series of six fortresses from the Dacian Kingdom, which ruled much of present-day Romanian prior in the 1st century BC and 1st century AD, prior to the Roman conquest in 106 AD. For this Site, we visit the fortress of Sarmizegetusa Regia in Hunedoara County, once the capital of Dacia and chief citadel of the King, Decebal (Decebalus). There's a lot of evidence here for a thriving and well-developed kingdom, so let's explore!
