At HiPEAC 2026 in Krakow, Poland, Micol Spitale, assistant professor at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering at the Politecnico di Milano, Italy, gave a talk on ‘socially intelligent robots’ as part of the ‘tech meets society’ session at the conference.
In this video interview, she gives EE Times an overview on her research on human-robot interaction and results of some of the studies on children interactions with robots as well as adult interactions with robots as part of research on how support robots can be used to help promote human well-being.
She talks about what worked and what didn’t, and how form factor matters. And with all the industry talk about humanoid robotics lately, she indicates why this is a lot of hype and that there’s still a long way to go to that specific reality.
