Before roads, borders, and engines, movement meant caravans. In the high mountains of Ladakh, a small group of nomads sets out across the passes, following routes once used to trade salt, furs, and livestock between Tibet and the plains.
Urgan walks with his cousin Norbou. They do not know when they will see their families again. Perhaps in a year. At this altitude, oxygen is scarce, each step heavier than the last. The caravan advances slowly toward Wori La Pass, more than 5,000 meters above sea level, where wind, cold, and isolation test bodies and resolve.
At night, a stone shelter and a fire offer brief refuge. Stories are told of spirits, solitude, and courage — lessons meant to prepare a child not only for the mountains, but for a future life away from home. These journeys are as much about endurance as they are about transmission.
On the other side of the pass, trade resumes. Yaks are sold, prices negotiated. But change is coming. A road will soon replace the trail. Trucks will replace caravans. Travel will become faster — and lonelier.
Filmed from within, this documentary follows a caravan in motion, capturing a world where distance shapes bonds, and where movement itself is a way of life, now standing at a crossroads.
