In the vast equatorial rainforest of central Africa, the voices of the “Little People” blend with the forest itself. This film follows indigenous hunter-gatherer communities including the Baka, Aka, Bagyéli, Bakola, Babinga, Bambuti, and explores how they move within defined forest territories to hunt, gather, fish, and pass down knowledge to their children.
From Cameroon to Congo-Brazzaville, and across the forests of the Central African Republic, Gabon, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the documentary shows daily life in forest camps, honey harvesting high in the canopy, traditional healing practices, and ceremonies linked to the forest spirit Jengui. But it also shows what is changing fast: restrictions by rangers, forced settlement policies, loss of land, logging roads, plantations, and conservation zones created without consultation.
As the forest is cut into narrow strips and communities are pushed to roadsides, schools and missions try to reduce marginalisation, while many families struggle to keep their language, mobility, and identity alive. A film about deep forest knowledge, cultural survival, and the brutal consequences of losing the one place that has always sustained them.
