Released in 2006, High School Musical became the most successful Disney Channel movie that set unrealistic expectations of the high school experience: If you start singing and dancing in the hallways, there's a very low chance your classmates will join you. With a plot described as a modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, High School Musical is about two teenagers, Troy and Gabriel, that meet fatefully singing "The Start of Something New." Despite being in rival cliques at East High School, they inspire others not to "Stick to the Status Quo" by trying out for the musical. They win the lead parts with the song "Breaking Free," in spite of plans to sabotage their audition. The movie ends on a happy note sending the message that "We're All in this Together," showing the unity between the two cliques. We hope you enjoy this throwback and encourage you to clap/sing/dance along!
