High performance thin layer chromatography, commonly known as HPTLC is the modified form of thin layer chromatography that involves use of a machine to load sample. In HPTLC since sample application is done by machine, a very precise amount can be loaded. The sample is loaded in the form of thin rectangular bands which are easy to visualize. The intensity of each bands can be measured using a detector system. The results are displayed on computer. The area under each peak gives information regarding concentration of sample. Hence using a standard graph, the concentration of unknown can be estimated.
