G'day everyone,

This is a project I probably should have done 2 years ago when I first added the 3HP motor to the mill, and that is to add a high-low gearing solution from the motor to the spindle. The 3HP motor works best between 1000-1400rpm, which suits most endmills and drills, but once it drops below 600 rpm, it loses efficiency fast and it does not take much to stall out the motor. Which usually means I have to run certain large tools at a higher rpm than I would like, so that the motor does not stall.

So in this video I would like to add a second set of pulleys to the spindle drive. And with this design, not only should we get a step down in speed, should be able to also step up the steep, by making the gear sets interchangeable.

I hope you enjoy the video.
