Behind the secret door to our basement storage area, there is a place within the door structure that I can build a fold down work surface. I built this fold down desk out of some reclaimed pine wall paneling I got from friends of mine. To make the parts I needed, I glued up sections of the thin but wide pieces of paneling to form the thicker pieces that I needed. The method I used of holding up the fold down table was having a fold out structure that holds up this work surface. Everything in the system folds away into the volume of the secret door when not in use. We see the function for this new work surface as a place to set boxes when looking for things in the storage room as well as a secret spot for wrapping presents.
