Why do you never touch your Toyota CV Axles?? Because, as you see in this video, it's a tough job with many other surprises that may arise. The surprises I'm facing are and were as follows; stuck cv axle nut, stripped lower ball joint bolts, stripped lower knuckle/spindle threads, finding oil seals that have to be replaced and now no way to put everything back together because the knuckle isn't useable. The point is, I'm actually glad to be finding and replacing all of these aging parts as a preventative maintenance measure but I know not everyone can handle this level of work that may be needed with a 'simple' cv axle replacement. One of the purposes of this video is to hopefully show the hardships that come with do-it-yourself maintenance. I'm hoping this video will help you understand the potential complexity of working on an older vehicle. In my case, a 3hr job has turned into 4 days and it's still not done.
The vehicle in this video is a 2005 Toyota 4Runner Limited with the 2UZ-FE 4.7L V8. Also known as the 4th Gen 4Runner.
