Formed in 1965, the quintet became inspired by the bouncy, harmony-driven sound of the British Merseybeat and joined the famous "British Invasion" and found its niche crafting melancholy, orchestrated ballads similar to Peter & Gordon, The Moody Blues, or The Zombies. The Fortunes came to prominence and international acclaim in 1965 after the release of a previous well-known hit "You've Got Your Troubles". They also found success in recording advertising jingles, most notably 'It's The Real Thing' for Coca-Cola in 1969.
