Heavy lifting won't feel like you think it will 🏋️
If you're used to hypertrophy training (lighter weight, higher reps, chasing the burn), heavy lifting is going to feel completely different—and that's normal.
Here's why:
In hypertrophy training, you feel your muscles burning because they're working for an extended period. You're creating metabolic stress and fatigue over 8-12+ reps.
But with heavy lifting? No burn. And that's because you're not asking your muscles to perform for as long.
Heavy lifting is about:
- High concentrated load in a short time
- Maximum muscle recruitment all at once
- Explosive bursts of energy to move big weight
- 1-6 reps instead of 8-15
It's a different stimulus, a different adaptation, and a totally different feeling. If you're not feeling "the burn" during heavy sets, that doesn't mean you're doing it wrong—it means you're training for strength, not just size.
What surprised you most when you started lifting heavy? 👇
