Rikki Poynter | hearing people who hate subtitles/captions at the movie theater @rikkipoynter | Uploaded July 2024 | Updated October 2024, 12 hours ago.
AMC, Marcus, Fandango, etc. will tell you when a screening is open captioned or closed captioned on the apps and websites so be sure you know what tickets you’re buying!
Video Description:
Rikki with no makeup on (light Tiktok filter) and shoulder length brown wavy hair down. She is wearing a Chucky graphic tee. Text at top of video says, “Hearing people disgusted by subtitles on the cinema screen?”
Transcript:
So I’m deaf and I went to go see the open caption screening of Longlegs and beside of me there was a mother and daughter. And some of the trailers had captions. Not all of them do, but after like the fourth one, the mother turns to me. She goes, “Are these captions gonna be on the screen like the whole time?” And I was like, “Yeah, there is an open caption screening.” And her daughter jerks up in her seat with like this look of disgust on her face and the mother doesn’t look that happy either, and she’s picking up her phone and looking through the email like, “I don’t recall this being in my email,” even though it tells you, you know, before you get the ticket. I almost wanted to be like, “I sure hope so because I’m deaf and I need them,” just- just to see if it would get awkward for her. But, yeah, make sure you know what you’re ordering, I guess, if you don’t want captions on the screen.
