I’m not going to name which urgent care specifically since, you know, legal information being stored there, but…
Unfortunately, this is very common in the medical industry. You’d think it wouldn’t happen here of all places since understanding what is wrong with you is important, but unfortunately, it still happens.
Even with hearing aids in, speech can and will be misunderstood by me, especially with a mask on. In a serious setting like a doctor’s office, I need to be sure I understand what is being said. Your first instinct should be visual communication unless otherwise discussed.

Recently, I went to urgent care. I always write “DEAF” on my medical papers (all over). That way, they would (hopefully) know not to speak out loud to me. Of course, when they call for my name, they are using their voice. And with a mask on, too. The papers have “DEAF” in big letters. Yet they still speak. When we enter the room, they’re still speaking. So I will be writing a review on the deaffriendly website. And let them know they need to do better than this.
