Prof. Dr. Günther Laukien, along with co-founder Dr. Emil Bruker, founded Bruker on September 7, 1960, in the backyard of a residential building on Hardtstraße in Karlsruhe, Germany, when he was a teaching professor at the University of Karlsruhe. At the time the company was founded, university professors in Germany were not allowed to commercialize their research while still teaching. Since Prof. Dr. Laukien could not be named as a founding member, co-founder Dr. Bruker provided his name to the growing start-up.

We look to the future, but without forgetting where we come from.
