"God’s first response to this tired prophet was not a rebuke. It wasn’t even encouragement. It was to provide a nap. And then a meal. And then another nap, and another meal. I can imagine the angel of the Lord sounding a lot like my mom or a stereotypical Asian aunty, asking “Have you eaten yet? You should sleep more. You look tired.” As we said in week one, we start where we are—even when where we are is needing something as simple as a snack and a nap.

I think this is the takeaway for someone in the room today who is tired. Tired of smiling at church while you're coming apart. Tired of holding it together for everybody else. Tired of being the strong one. Tired of catching everything before it hits the floor. Someone here might need to hear this before you hear anything else today: God is not asking you to perform; God is inviting you to rest. God met Elijah in the nap and in the meal, and God will meet you—right here, this morning—wherever you are."
